That produces a pleasing effect I think.
I'm thinking it's a very personal matter of taste. Depends very much on the reader concerned. What one person might like, would annoy the pants of the next.
I'm wondering about offering TWO different evoca recordings in stories. One would be labeled (voice only), and the other might be labeled (voice+ music background effects)

What I have against that, is that it's going to get a bit cluttered above each story.

Hmmmm.....

Is there a distinct G.R.A.B.effect in "genuine" writing websites?

I wonder is there a distinct G.R.A.B. effect in "genuine" Cyberspace writing websites?
In real life we are surrounded with prejudice and bias. "Swamped" might be a better word. And on the Internet, we see the same thing happening. An exception might just be occurring on those sites, where people share a genuine love of a particular art form.
For instance: writing websites.

1) G
Gender I was exploring this theme the other day in my fictional short story "The one night stand". That peculiar 'behind the scenes' exploration/presence of sexuality that comes and goes as two members of the opposite sex meet together.
Does it matter, when you are reading a story on Writers Haven or Writers Harbor? I think not. We are looking mostly at the story, and the fact that it is written by a male or a female, pretty or ugly, becomes -largely- irrelevant. Certainly, there will still be the hungry ones hunting for a partner, who have very little interest in creative writing. Strayed mysteriously from MySpace and Facebook, they might be looking more at the pretty face than the letters. Broadly speaking however, the importance of gender is lessened, don't you think?
2) R
Racial prejudice. In this day and age, with the Human Genome project establishing clearly that racial genetic differences are so infinitely tiny as to be negligible, it seems to me the case is proven beyond any doubt that we ARE all brothers and sisters. Period.
Seems to me that "race" on a genuine writing website is much less important than in real life, and is in fact almost a non-issue?
3) A
Age. Does it matter on a genuine love-of-writing website? Can a seventeen year old fall in love with a seventy year old writer?
I think so. Not sexually,or romantically, but creatively. If you like, spiritually. A good writing website can help people see past the MINOR (?) attributes of age, gender and race. And focus on the writing.
4) B
Bias. Bias in general. Does it matter what the writer's job is, when he or she is examining such common human experiences such as Love, Death, Romance, Longing, Heartache?
Does it matter if the writer is rich? Poor? University Educated? Self taught? A Professor? A carpet cleaner? An engineer? A lawnmower repair man?

So, for my part, I DO think there IS a distinct GRAB effect at work on "genuine" love-of-writing websites.

What say ye?

With regards to flying,
My best would have to be the day I lead a 4 plane formation flight for a bombing, and strafing training flight. We were on detachment to El Centro Ca. Otherwise known as El Sweato.
There are four bomb ranges close by, Shatetree, Loom Lobby, Inky Barley, and Kitty Baggage. As I recall we were at Shadetree.
Our formation of 4 A4-J skyhawks in the high 30 degree dive bomb pattern performed well. When it was time for the 10 degree strafe low pattern, I remember transitioning like I was on rails, and zenning into having all the pattern parameters perfect.
As I rolled out into my first dive, cleared the range, and selected master arm hot, I remember I was right on all the numbers, when I reached firing altitude, the gunsight pipper was right on the bullseye as I squeezed the trigger of the 20mm cannon, and it fired, but jammed after the first round, which was common.
But as I began the pullout, I distinctly saw the vapor trail of the bullet, and it arced ever so perfectly right into the center of the bullseye. I still get a great sense of satisfaction when I think about that moment.
Now if you want my rotary best moment, I shall have to think a lot about that, but I'm sure I don't have an experience in rotary as comparable.

I have thought of my rotary best moment, and my best combined, but I shall save them until my posting privileges are upgraded. Moggy, can my posts be self approved ? Every one has been met with the message "Your post will need approval and moderation", or some such.

All sorts of bells and whistles, music, lots and lots of photos, lots and lots of advertisements, and lots and lots of.... blogging.Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with blogging.
But it tends to be not-very-serious stuff. It's more social networking, friendship making, chin-wagging coffee drinking, socializing. Again, nothing wrong with that. But... I kind of like the way Writers harbor is slowly shaping up as a lean, mean, writing machine. I don't see any benefit in trying to be a "MySpace clone" or a "Multiply.com lookalike"....

My thinking is: write, write and write again. Write for the love of writing. Keep it simple to use, lean, mean, and easy to navigate.
If you click on a writer's name, and then go to "view all works", you can quickly locate ALL of somebody's writings...
I like that. And there's no intrusive advertisements....

I'm open to differing opinions.... this is just my personal opinion. I think the SIMPLE formula is great. Simple to use. Simple to navigate. Lean, Clean.... and fun! Feel free to disagree...!!!
