A Mother's Love

You asked me to hold your hand
And said you love me the most
You gave me a kiss on my lips
And hugged me so tightly
I felt the warmth of your love
So genuine, gentle and pure

I held your tiny hand
With fingers interlocked
And I said I love you the most too
In the dimmed light I whispered goodnight
I watched you closed your eyes
As you wandered off to dreamland

Sleep well, my darling
I prayed for you a dream so sweet
That can make you laugh and giggle
A dream all 3-year-olds can enjoy
Of slides and swings
Water-plays and sand castles
Ice-creams and candies
Balloons and toys

As your grip grew softer
I still held on
I hope you know
You can trust these hands
And the heart behind these hands
In every moment of your life
In every cry and laughter

As the years go by
And as you experience life
At its best and worst
You'll never forget these words
I don't only love you the most at bedtime
But I love you the most every time and every day

I like all things quiet and gentle.

Francis Meyrick

Absolutely beautiful.
The poem, and your little girl!

We little humans, hurtling through the Universe on our tiny, pale blue dot, will find few answers to Life's great mysteries. But we should at least find many of the questions. To write is to ask. To seek. To grope. With humility, and humor. Peace.
